Hi everyone! Venelouis here, creator and lead maintainer of Rullst 📜🦀🌐.
Today, I am thrilled to share an important milestone in the journey of Rullst—a decision driven by maturity, security, and an unwavering commitment to making Rullst one of the fastest, most sustainable, and most reliable full-stack frameworks in the world.
We are officially announcing the End-of-Life (EOL) for Rullst Version 12 and opening the doors to Version 13 Alpha! 🎉
🧘 The "Reset": Moving from Rapid Growth to Production Precision
When we built Version 12, our goal was to rapidly establish Rullst’s presence in the Rust ecosystem and empower our early partners with a coordinated super full-stack framework. We shipped fast, established 38 automated verification workflows, and proved that building full-stack applications in Rust can be both powerful and effortless.
However, rapid growth teaches invaluable lessons. To build a world-class framework that stands the test of time, we decided to hit "reset" on how Rullst evolves.
Instead of rushing major milestones, Version 13 is being forged with calm, deliberate engineering and deep real-world production testing ✨. We are currently battle-testing v13.0.0-alpha.2 in live production environments, while actively preparing v13.0.0-alpha.3 on our main branch.
This slower, precision-first cadence allows us to refine every API boundary, harden security guarantees, and ensure that every feature is rock-solid before it reaches your hands.
🔥 What’s New in Version 13 Alpha: Leaner, Smarter, and Faster!
Version 13 isn't just an update—it’s an architectural evolution designed to make Rullst lighter, faster, and more sustainable. Here are the major highlights:
📦 1. Expanding to 20 Modular Crates (Up from 16)
While Version 12 was built on 16 publishable crates, Version 13 Alpha expands the monorepo ecosystem to 20 specialized crates. This modular expansion provides cleaner separation of concerns, lighter dependency trees, and even greater flexibility when choosing exactly what your application needs without bloat.
💳 2. Streamlined Payment Engine: Stripe & InfinityPay
In Version 12, payment integrations were spread across multiple experimentations. For Version 13, we made the strategic decision to streamline our payment adapters in rullst-capital, focusing hyper-specifically on two clear winners:
- 🌍 Stripe: The global gold standard for SaaS, subscriptions, and international checkout flows.
- 🇧🇷 InfinityPay: The most advantageous, high-converting, and cost-effective payment gateway for the Brazilian market.
By stripping away unnecessary payment bloat, rullst-capital delivers a lighter footprint with maximum reliability and regional advantage.
⚡ 3. Retiring Omni in Favor of First-Class PWAs (cargo rullst make:pwa)
On October 16, 2026, we made a major architectural decision: we are officially retiring Rullst Omni and replacing it with native Progressive Web Apps (PWA).
Why the change? 💡
The previous make:omni Tauri web shells (for desktop, Android, and iOS) simply wrapped the hosted Rullst web application inside a native webview without exposing native APIs. In practice, this delivered the exact same user experience as a PWA, but forced maintainers and developers to manage three heavy release workflows (Android NDK, iOS simulator, desktop on three OSs), constant Tauri updates, and complex per-platform signing.
The Alpha 3 Solution: cargo rullst make:pwa 🌐
In v13.0.0-alpha.3, running a single command generates a lightweight, high-performance PWA setup:
cargo rullst make:pwa
This automatically scaffolds:
- 📄 Web App Manifest & Icons: Fully configured for instant "Add to Home Screen" installability across mobile and desktop.
- ⚙️ Smart Service Worker: Includes an offline fallback page and automatic update prompts.
- 🛡️ Built-in Security: Fully compatible with
rullst-coreCSP nonces and defaultCache-Controlheaders. - 💾 Browser-Side Offline Storage: Built-in IndexedDB support for client-side offline data persistence whenever your app needs it.
🛡️ Uncompromising Quality, Security & Sustainability
Even as we innovate, Rullst’s core engineering promises remain non-negotiable:
- 🔒 Zero-Panic Policy: Gating production builds against unexpected crashes (
panic!,unwrap, andexpectare strictly denied). - 🧪 Continuous Verification: Layered testing across more than 40 CI/CD verification workflows with a strict ≥90% repository code coverage floor.
- 🔓 Axum & SQLx Escape Hatches: Complete freedom to mount raw
axum::Routerinstances or execute directsqlx::Poolqueries whenever you need low-level control.
🛠️ What This Means for v12 Users
The v12 maintenance line (currently v12.1.1 on crates.io) remains stable for existing projects. However, active feature development has fully shifted to Version 13 on main.
When Version 13 reaches stable release, our CLI upgrade engine (cargo rullst upgrade) will assist you in seamlessly transitioning your codebases.
🌟 Building the Future of Rust Web Development Together
Rullst was created to eliminate developer suffering without hiding Rust's underlying power, speed, and explicitness. This reset in pacing—combined with leaner PWAs, focused payments, and 20 modular crates—ensures that Rullst remains sustainable, blazing fast, insanely secure, and truly one of the best frameworks for modern web development 🦀🔥.
Thank you to our amazing community, partners, and contributors for walking this journey with us!
Let's build what's next—with calm, confidence, and code we can trust! 🚀
